Meetup Groups in Asheville, North Carolina

The Asheville Hiking Group
Interested in taking a short, long, or somewhere in the middle length hike/stroll in western North Carolina? Look no further!!! Everything from a quick (3-4 hour) hike to a full day of hiking to overnight backpacking trips, we'll try it all! Check us out and experience the pristine and amazing wilderness of western North Carolina!!! Everyone is welcome to the group, beginner or expert, 2 legs or 4, young and old. Please note that, while the group is open to everyone, not all hikes are appropriate for everyone. Hike organizers reserve the right to limit the hike size and screen potential participants to ensure their own safety and that of others in the group. Hike organizers will also try to post as much information as possible about the hike, however since there are so many trails in the area, we have not always hiked them before and are sometimes relying on published or posted information. We will meet occasionally to plan the excursions and talk about how to use the meetup tools (ie. change your email settings to not get all the notifications and reminders, how to post photos, etc.) The fee for this meetup group is paid for by our sponsors, please check them out and support them as you can. Please help us keep this group active and free for everyone!! And please remember that our hike leaders are volunteers. We are doing this because we enjoy hiking, and want everyone else to enjoy it too. Suggestions are GREATLY appreciated! So, come on in, interact, enjoy yourself, and we'll see you on the trail!

Asheville Beer City Meetup
Rather than let an interesting-sounding group expire, I jumped in at the last second to take over the Beer Lovers group. The original idea will stay pretty much the same: Meeting and hanging out with people who love drinking, brewing, tasting or discussing one of the oldest and best of mankind's achievements. Please feel free to contact me with suggestions - I will be scheduling events for beer tastings, regular get-togethers (say, twice a month) and of course there are Asheville's many beer-friendly festivals and venues. Please note that this group is self funded. So twice a year we all chip in a few dollars each to help offset the semi annual costs. Please give your "dues" to one of your meet up organizers. Thanks. "People who drink light "beer" don't like the taste of beer; they just like to pee a lot." - Capital Brewery, Middleton, WI

WNC Easy Hikers & Walkers
This meet-up group is geared for people who are looking to get some exercise by walking and hiking at a more moderate and easier pace than what the usual hiking club in the greater Asheville area offers. We will seek out more level hiking trails with no more than 600 foot elevations and range anywhere from 2 - 6 miles in length with a social element of ending the walks and hikes with an optional shared meal at a restaurant near the hiking/walking destination. In other words, easy hikes and walks. Hikes and walks will not be limited to the rugged trails of Western North Carolina, but will incorporate outings to parks and urban areas of cities and towns in the greater Asheville area. When the weather is not condusive to outdoor walking and hiking, we will seek indoor venues where walking can be done comfortably. Based on feed-back some of the more popular walking and hiking destinations will be set up on a regular weekly or monthly basis.

Anna's Adventurers
I decided to start this group to help others achieve a more enjoyable hiking endeavor on the upcoming weekend hikes that are a bit more challenging. When you make the choice to make exercise a part of your daily routine, it allows for a healthier way of life. Along with exercise, you must also change eating habits. I love to do both and enjoy indulging with the both of them to allow for enjoyment not uggh....diet and exercise...I will give suggestions on how I maintain a healthy weight and get enjoyment out of both food and fitness. We live in a fantastic location to behold the beauty around us and challenge our inner selves. I will not categorize this as a boot camp. I have participated in these and really enjoyed them while living in Indiana. I would like to have this small group want to push themselves for one to two hours during this program when we do or evening adventures and also do other "fun outings" in and around the area. I love waterfalls and would like to be able to do Douglas Falls by June without being extremely tired and sore after the adventure or other more strenuous hikes or activities. Please join us for the adventure. We welcome suggestions and your own health tips and questions. I have been a certified fitness trainer from 2008-2010 and have trained for a marathon for leukemia society, so I know about discipline and inner fortitude.

Ladies Fun du jour
We are a female-only group and the purpose of this group is to get together with other women for fun and laughs. Our monthly dinners are very popular and a great way to meet someone different each month as we have women from all walks of life in our group. Unlike a specialized group we have different activities all the time - movies, dinner, music, crafts, sports, hiking, etc - whatever you're up for. If you don't see anything on the schedule that interests you, then make a suggestion for the group and if two other people like it, it automatically turns into a meetup. This is a great group to join if you're looking for some girl time, time away from the kids or just want something fun to do. All we ask in return is that you donate $1 per month to cover fees required by meetup, to be collected at the event. Once we have collected enough money to cover expenses for the next billing cycle, we will stop asking for donations. Any questions regarding this policy, please email the Co-Organizer.

The Asheville Ex-New Yorkers Meetup Group
Welcome Asheville Ex-New Yorkers and Friends! Welcome to Western North Carolina's Meetup group for folks from the New York region now living here in The South! Whether you are from New York City, New York State or Long Island, come on out and fellowship with friends who understand you. You're from New Jersey? You belong here. You're from the surrounding region? If you identify with New York, you belong here. We love half-backs. New York is a melting pot so we are too. We use "pal", "buddy" and "guy" as terms of endearment. We tell stories and commiserate with others who have too often heard, "You're not from 'round here, are you?" We have our own expression for "Bless your heart." We help each other adjust and feel less like a stranger. Sharing our businesses with one another and helping each other succeed and grow is what we do. If you like great conversation where any subject can be discussed and all political views, religious preferences and cultural backgrounds are embraced, you will like coming out to our little melting pot here in the mountains. With the same equality and diversity, we'll also give you a hard time. A sense of humor and an ability to laugh at ourselves is helpful. At the heart of it is a heart for each other and the community we develop. You can usually find us rather easily. Listen for the voices rising above the din in the restaurant. We laugh out loud. We're the ones having intelligent conversation after a show. We can be both loving and rude all at the same time. We have plenty of opinions and don't mind sharing them. Going out to eat is our most common Meetup. We have movies on the schedule. We've been to the theater and will plan more of those. Let's do more fun things. Join us and suggest events that you would like to attend. We have a cosmopolitan, city, inclusive mindset. Our members are from all walks of life with a depth of experience and world view, bringing a richness to our conversation. This is YOUR New York Meetup group...without the tolls. Have you signed up and never come out? We look forward to meeting you so come and join us! Note: When setting up your profile, your organizer appreciates a recognizable face photo and a real name, both mandatory. Full names are preferable. Nicknames, rainbow names and aliases are unacceptable. Thanks for your consideration! Experience shows that it really makes for a better group experience. NO WALK-INS. To attend one of our events, you must be a registered member or accompanied by a member.

Western North Carolina Rock Climbing MeetUP
BEFORE YOU JOIN THIS GROUP you are to read and agree to the following terms and conditions. By being a part of this network you publicly acknowledge that you understand and completely agree to the following: 1. This is an online social network which meets periodically in person. This Meetup group is not a substitute for competent, professional climbing instruction from an American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) certified instructor. If you are looking for a qualified rock climbing instructor, please visit Fox Mountain Guides and Climbing School http://www.FoxMountainGuides.com. 2. What goes up, must come down. Falling is a part of climbing. Falling is considered by those participating in the sport of rock climbing to be an accepted risk. Sometimes a fall could leave you injured or dead. Again, the consequences of a fall, no matter how severe, are an accepted risk to the climber and belayer. If you get hurt during an event posted on this website, it is completely your responsibility. You are not to blame anyone else! BY JOINING THIS GROUP YOU ACCEPT FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR SAFETY, HEALTH, AND WELL-BEING WITH NO EXCEPTIONS. 3. The Organizer, Assistant Organizers, Members, and Sponsor of the Nashville Rock Climbing Meetup Group do not guarantee the competence of any individual. Now that the heavy stuff is understood, we do encourage those who agree to the aforementioned terms and conditions, and who have a hint of courage, to join this group. It provides an excellent opportunity to learn an incredibly challenging, dangerous, and rewarding sport. This particular group is made up mainly of those with minimal experience. It is used as a way to meet new people and try new things within the sport of rock climbing. We learn together. We have several opportunities throughout the year for both indoor and outdoor climbing. Beginners are very welcome on most events. Most outdoor trips are lead by AMGA (http://www.amga.com) certified instructors. These trips usually require an investment of under $80 and include all the equipment you will need for rock climbing. Happy climbing!

Do you love to play music or want to learn to play? It's more fun to play with other musicians not always easy to find them. Local jam sessions and open mics can be intimidating and many of us amateurs will just go to listen. This group is meant to connect people who enjoy music and just want to play. This way whenever someone is in the mood to play they have someone to contact. Lets make this work. Sign up and tell your friends!

Hiking with Preschoolers in WNC
I started this group because we hike a lot with our kids and we wanted to share the experience with other families in the area. We pick a different spot to hike once or twice a week and we all meet-up for the hike. And now that the group has been up and running for several months, I have to say that it is one of the days a week that I look forward to the most. The hikes have been a lot of fun, the kids are all on board and getting to be great little hikers. It has been an exciting summer season on the trail and I look forward to more adventures this fall and winter (a perfect time to hike in WNC!). We have even had a camping weekend with 22 attendees which was a highlight of the summer. We learned a lot of valuable lessons; that hot marshmallow sticks in the hands of children is not a good idea, and that one should never let them have access to hammocks! Everyone is aware that this is preschool children we are talking about though and not everything always goes as planned on a hike. Everyone has been flexible ready to support each other in the event that one of the kids (or moms (or dads!)) was having a bad hiking day. I am really grateful that we've had such a great group of people out with us. Usually the kids can work through it, but this isn't some sort of forced march that I am interested in creating. (at least not always, lol). The current members are all very supportive of one another, it is a terrific group of people interested in getting their kids outdoors. While we are in Hendersonville, we hike all over the area, Carl Sandburg, Jump Off Rock, Chimney, Pisgah Forest, Cradle of Forestry, Bent Creek, Fish Hatchery), Dupont State Forest, Blue Ridge Parkway, Jones Gap State Park, Oklawaha Greenway, just to name a few areas. We are constantly exploring new areas and also fall back to old favorites too. IMPORTANT: Always carry water (and a snack, if it is going to be a long hike) for little ones while out hiking. Or better yet, have them carry it. We currently have a sponsor for the group so there are no dues at this time. It used to be $5 every 6 months to cover the cost of being on meetup, but Thanks to Phoenix of Anderson/All ABout Fabric, everyone can hike with us without worrying about whether their dues are up to date. You can find out more about them on our discussion board.

Asheville Women's Book Club
As a lover of reading, I am always surrounded by others talking about great books they are currently or have recently read. I was shocked to find there were no Meetup book clubs in our area. I would love a chance to meet new women and discuss books that are read by the group and get recommendations for books to be read outside of the group. This book club/reading group will mainly be focused on a casual book discussion (not analysis) and meeting new friends. If you love reading and want to make new book worm buddies, then this is the group for you. This book club is open to women only.

Asheville Pay It Forward Network
There is more joy in giving than receiving. Every little thing we receive in life should be seen as a gift. When we feel gratitude for what is given to us, we should do our best to pay it forward to the next person in whatever ways that are within our means. Life is a constant flow of gifts and gratitude. It is not just about the "Have's" giving to the "Have not's". Everyone has something to give, be it money, time, service, or simply a small act of kindness. This group is associated with a much wider network under the auspices of www.CharityFocus.org which inspired the creation of the Karma Kitchen, the Karma Clinic Network and the Pay-it-Forward clinics in Asheville and Hendersonville. Our aim is to promote the concept of Pay-it-Forward in the hope that it will become an intrinsic part our day-to-day activities, provide opportunities whereby members can actively participate in the act of giving, to enhance the sense of community and our connection to each and every one, and to be the change we wish to see in the world. We do not have to wait till disaster strikes or Christmas to give and support each other. We are not lacking in giving and caring people in Asheville. We love to have you as part of the network. As a member, you are not obliged to attend any meetings or events. We will however keep you posted about our group activities and we welcome any suggestions from you. We welcome you all to join and we wish each member will take pride in being a conscious "pay-it-forwarder", and help to make the world a better place one gift at a time.

We are creating an Intentional Community near Earthaven just South of Black Mountain, N.C. We are negotiating the purchase of +100 acres and intend to form one or more communities according to the desires of the founders (you?). Our overall intention is to provide affordable housing and (or) co-housing for a diverse community of singles, families and the elderly (humans in general). We intend to support permaculture ideals with independent/interdependent sustainable living practices. We are geared to self-sufficiency and intend to participate in generating our own food, clothing and shelter. There are several other Intentional Communities in the immediate area with about 150 people of different skills and abilities. We have the potential to be an example of a self-reliant sustainable community and intend to be a demonstration project that others may duplicate. Please join with us if you have the desire to participate in the development of this community. We welcome advisors, investors and any level of participation. We are in the purchase/planning stage so "hands on" land clearing, gardening or home-building will come later. If you are interested in participating in the hands on work please participate in the planning too. Flash Mob Asheville
A flash mob is a planned public performance, usually a dance or song, that 'seems' to appear out of nowhere. But in reality, participants are organized via mass communications to come together at a specified place and time, mingle amongst the general public, then join in when the performance begins. It usually begins with just one, two, or a handful of people, but quickly grows to dozens of participants. If the performance is a well-known one (like the Cha Cha Slide or a holiday song), the general public will often join right in! When the performance is over, mob participants quickly disperse and return to mingling amongst the crowd, just like nothing ever happened. Flash mobs surprise and entertain mall shoppers, restaurant patrons, people waiting in lines, and even unsuspecting office workers. Flash mobs are great family fun. Anyone, of any age, of any physical or mental ability can participate. No singing or dancing ability or other special talents are necessary. The only requirements are to learn the routine, show up, and most importantly HAVE FUN! Imagine being part of a spontaneous public performance of:the Cha Cha Slide, Michael Jackson's "Thriller," beloved Christmas carols, Lady Gaga Dances, or the Theme to Gilligan's Island......(why not?). Sound like fun? If so, JOIN OUR GROUP!

Asheville Adult ADHD Meetup Group
Welcome to the NEW Asheville area Adult ADD Meetup group. **This group requires that you must 'JOIN' to receive full details, location and more. Meet other local adults dealing with ADD or ADHD. Gather to share your experiences, progress, and thoughts with one another. Discuss the latest information, research, books, programs, treatments. Share your best methods of adaptation, working around weaknesses, relying on strengths. This is a positive group. We focus attention on our strengths and weaknesses and use our humor, which carries us through the end of the day. Note to prospective new members: since this group focuses (or tries to focus!) on a condition that is often misunderstood or even dismissed as "an excuse," we have made this group "private." That is to protect your privacy - from employers, family, friends and anyone else who may have an "opinion" about ADHD. This is NOT to discourage you from joining. Trust me, if you want to join an ADHD group, you're automatically IN. who else could actually ENJOY interruptions, flights of fancy, arriving late, forgetting to RSVP, etc. Just submit your name and I will approve your membership (assuming you aren't selling spamm-y things that guarantee bigger body parts or have an inheritance you want to share for a small fee).

Portrait Photography Group - Asheville
This is a Meetup group of like-minded photographers who specialize in portrait photography work. We welcome all skill levels, from beginners to professionals! Our mission at PPG is to provide fun and affordable opportunities to broaden your skill set in all areas of photography. We are an interactive learning group dedicated to sharing information amongst each other and supporting one another in the quest to capture that perfect image. If you love photographing people, then this Meetup group is the right place for you! The human face is the most fascinating and instantly recognizable element of our humanity. Are you aware that the human face can create approximately 5,000 expressions? Smiling is the most easily recognizable facial expression! At PPG, we will provide all the tools you will need to capture the emotions of those around you. Workshops include working with all types of models, both outdoor and in studio. Typical sessions include engagements, weddings, maternity, newborn, children, seniors, families, pets, boudoir and even the occasional professional model for high fashion/concept shoots. In addition, we work with every type of lighting; natural, studio strobes, continuous and off camera flash. We also practice posing and interacting with real people. More often than not, the models we photograph are not pros. Occasionally we do get a chance to work with pro models who know exactly what to do so that you can concentrate on your equipment. However, my goal is to give you a learning platform to work with "real" people that will be more like your "real" clients. There are several Meetups scheduled each month. Some of our meetings are simply just for networking, where you can meet other photographers and just have some fun talking. Other Meetups are organized with models and locations that allow you an opportunity to learn from one another. Many of the Meetups include instruction with more informative training to help advance your knowledge and skill levels. Basic membership in the group is free and there are several Meetups throughout the year that are also free, however, many of the "outings" do involve a small fee, usually $10-$40. A basic member can RSVP for any of the public Meetups and sessions. Training and portrait outings will take place in the areas of: •posing •lighting •equipment •marketing & sales •software and studio work flow •Photoshop •social media - why it's so important and perfect for photographers •and much more.... Charities will play a big part in this Meetup group as well, and different events will be scheduled in order to give back to our community. Giving with an open heart can be so rewarding and fun. We do hope that you will participate in our charity events as well! We also invite you to join our group on our Facebook page where will will be sharing images and spreading the word about our Meetup through the social media community. Present Company
The seeds for solutions are always present within the challenges we face, and the current state of affairs is no exception. The problem, as Einstein said, is that we can't solve our problems at the same level of thinking [and awareness] from which we created them. To create businesses that work in these changing times, we need to find ways to bring a deeper level of consciousness to our work. Present Company is a "conscious business" incubator ....guiding you through a more integrated, whole person approach to manifesting your visions. Whether you're launching a new business or project, or just looking to bring more life and meaning to the work you're in, my five point model of inquiry will help you get there. With my guidance through this model, the group becomes a safe and effective incubator for birthing a business that truly supports your vision for your life.

The Open Table of Asheville
I don't have all the answers, in fact, I hardly have any. But why is it so hard for myself and many others to admit that? The purpose of this group is to get together and simply talk through things. No, we won't get it all figured out, but isn't the mystery of life truly one of its joys? Or at least it can be when we let go of our feeble attempts to control and enjoy the mystery. Much of the focus will be on spiritual issues, but feel free to propose any question you would like to discuss. I want you to feel welcome, no matter your background, but I will add that this is meant for those who are capable of being at least a tiny bit open minded. We all have our opinions, but respectful dialogue is important.

Lewis (1896-1971), a Sufi Murshid (teacher) and Rinzai Zen Master, who also studied deeply in the mystical traditions of Hinduism, Judaism, and Christianity. In this creation, Lewis was deeply influenced by his contact and spiritual apprenticeship with two people: Hazrat Inayat Khan, who first brought the message of universal Sufism to the West in 1910, and Ruth St. Denis, a feminist pioneer in the modern dance movement in America and Europe. The Dances of Universal Peace have evolved and expanded in practical application to meet the deep felt needs today for rediscovering reverence, creativity, and a body-based connection to the natural world. Teachers share the Dances in schools, therapy groups, prisons, hospice houses, drug rehabilitation centers, homes for the developmentally disabled, retirement villages, holistic health centers, and ecumenical worship celebrations. Please join us for some "body prayer" in any of the circles listed. ALL are welcome!

Awake the Goddess Within: Women Empowering Women ~ Asheville
SORRY, THIS GROUP IS DISINTEGRATING AT THIS TIME. UNFORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH INTEREST/ATTENDANCE TO KEEP IT ALIVE, UNLESS SOMEONE ELSE STEPS UP TO CONTINUE WITH IT... "How might your life have been different if there had been a place for you? A place for you to go... a place of women, to help you learn the ways of women...?" ~Judith Duerk This is a circle of women where we come to share openly who we are and participate in discussions and activities to foster self-knowledge and self-growth, in a respectful and playful atmosphere. I have been part of several women's groups over the years and always found that, no matter what the purpose or inclinations of the group, they have all empowered me as a woman and helped me gain clarity about who I am and what I want. I agree with Jean Shinoda Bolen when she says that women's circles encourage connection and support each member to find their own voice to live more courageously. Finding our voice as women is no easy task, with so much conditioning and distorted beliefs against us. Yet the world is showing that it is time to awake and regain our power; not a coercive (masculine) type of power, but our true inner, loving, nurturing, conscious, creative power. What Is This Group About: About women empowering women to self-explore in an inclusive, safe, and nurturing environment; about women leaving their roles (daughter, mother, wife, lover, partner, professional, etc.) at the door to explore their individual creative, joyful, versatile, and abundant nature, and gain clarity of purpose in their lives. It is about creating a shift in consciousness about who we really are! Group activities may include: • Exercises for personal awareness • Sharing philosophical views • Discussions about the Feminine • Exploring the Goddess archetypes in our life • Creating vision boards and using art for self-exploration • Writing and sharing poetry • Meditation and other spiritual tools • Watching spiritual films or films about women • Reading and/or sharing books about self-growth • Sharing individual spiritual beliefs and celebrations • Role playing games and exercises • Other types of activities, exercises, techniques, and discussions to help us understand who we are as individual women, gain clarity of what we each want, and make our voice heard through our conscious desires, thoughts, and actions, as well as the group's collective energy and intention. This is a group for women willing to really look at and transform themselves by opening up and tapping into the divine creative, conscious energy within, which is our inherent power. If you are in or near Asheville, NC, and think this is for you, please join us! We may also choose every now and then to meet at a public place to simply hang out and enjoy each other's company and conversation... To join this group: Upload a photo of yourself where we can see your face (yes, it is a requirement!) and answer a few questions. I think it is important for us to meet virtually before meeting in person. Also, a monthly membership donation of at least $1 plus another $1minimum donation per meeting to maintain this site and keep the group going.

Ginn states, "Obesity, you see it all around you, perhaps even in yourself. I know I did. Forty pounds overweight, I saw first hand the negative effects a sedentary lifestyle combined with poor eating habits has on the human body – physically, mentally, and psychologically. While I wasn't yet a burden to the health care system, one cannot deny that the negative choices we make not only have a damaging effect on our bodies, but a damaging effect on our health care system as well. Planned Parenthood Young Advocates - Asheville
Young Advocates Protecting Reproductive Rights for the Next Generation! Who are the Young Advocates? The Planned Parenthood Young Advocates work to expand active support for reproductive health services in our local communities. We are women and men in our 20's, 30's and early 40's who host social events to raise awareness about and funds for Planned Parenthood's programs and services. We're professionals, grad students and stay at home parents. We work at nonprofits, small businesses, government agencies and large corporations. We believe that all individuals should have the knowledge, opportunity and freedom to make responsible choices concerning their health and sexuality. What's the point? Our goal is to reach out to other people our age to provide accurate and up-to-date information about reproductive health care issues and to encourage those in our age group to stand up for their reproductive rights. We work to educate Gen X and Gen Y on Planned Parenthood's important role in the community, and to provide participants with the motivation, skills and tools to become leaders and supporters of the reproductive rights movement. Our events are a blast - the perfect blend of social gathering and social justice! What kind of stuff do we do? We primarily host social events to bring like-minded people together to talk about current Planned Parenthood initiatives and how they can help. Some recent events include: An Art Bar Social at a wine bar/art gallery to kick-off our "Fill My Pills" campaign. We drank great wine, gave out great prizes, and spent a few minutes talking about pharmacists who are refusing to fill emergency contraception prescriptions and our plan to make sure women get their legally prescribed birth control without judgment or delay. A "Toast to Choice" cocktail event at a Chinese bistro/karaoke Bar to celebrate the Roe v. Wade anniversary. We mixed, mingled and raised our glasses to toast Roe v. Wade. One of our Young Advocates briefly talked about the misconceptions many people have about Planned Parenthood and how to have a productive (and civil) conversation with someone who is misinformed. Safe Sex in the City. Who doesn't like drinking cocktails for a good cause? This party at a local bar raised awareness about emergency contraception and other forms of birth control provided by Planned Parenthood. Young Advocates also help by getting involved with public affairs initiatives, doing community presentations, helping with letter-writing campaigns, talking about Planned Parenthood to friends and colleagues and getting other young people to come to events.

BUYcott for a Living Wage
WHAT:The Ethical Society of Asheville has initiated a “BUYCOTT for a Living Wage” to thank and support businesses that have been certified as Living-Wage Employers by Just Economics of WNC. Certified businesses are listed at www.justeconomicswnc.org. HOW:The process is easy. Your organization prints “BUYCOTT thank-you” notes for your members to carry with them. Members who patronize a living-wage business hand the cashier or waiter a thank-you note explaining that one reason for patronizing them is that they pay a living wage. Members’ BUYCOTT shopping thanks the owners and helps the business’s bottom line. WHY:We want your organization to join us in this BUYCOTT so as to: •Encourage more businesses to pay their employees a Living Wage •Make sure Living-Wage Employers get certified and become known in the community •Bring more shoppers to patronize certified businesses at every opportunity •Publicize the BUYCOTT throughout the region to help make all of WNC a Living-Wage community

We can just bring our stuff and get to know each other, share techniques, ideas....and work on our scrapbooks and other projects. I also thought it would fun for everyone to bring a homemade snack and we can recipe swap too. Can be an appetizer, dessert...whatever. I'm happy to have this at my house as long as I can accommodate the number. I live in downtown Weaverville. This is open to all....Mars Hill, Weaverville, Asheville, Barnardsville.... Asheville Adventures in Alcohol
I am a sommelier, trained by the Court of Master Sommeliers. I am also a sake sommelier, certified at the Masters level - one of approximately 100 in the world. I have traveled far and wide learning everything I could about all things inebriating, and finally decided to settle down and start a family somewhere that felt like home here in Western North Carolina. Now I'm starting this group to bring together equal opportunity drinkers far and wide. This group has a place for those curious about, interested in, or passionate for all things alcohol and food related! If you love wine, beer spirits or sake, you have found a home here, and we are glad to have you! Mark your calendars and schedule a designated driver because we will be learning about different types of alcohol and the food pairings to match!

Jesus People Asheville
Who We Are: We are Jesus' People who want revolution for GLBTQ and Straight people, who seek to be free from religion and full of God. Mission: We are GLBTQ reaching out to GLBTQ and Straight people, who have been marginalized by religion, society or other systems, and provide a safe, healthy environment where they can explore the real Jesus and know God as God really is, discovering and living out their highest destiny. Premises: Who is Jesus? He is often presented to people in a discriminating way rather than the message of grace, love and acceptance, no matter who a person is or what that person does or has done. We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that He lived an exemplary life on earth and that He offers the gift of abundant life now and eternal life afterwards to whoever believes. The Bible is often misrepresented or misquoted, taken out of context to promote a discriminating "gospel' based on political, religious or societal agendas that are not historically or contextually accurate. We believe that it is the true, life-giving word of God, when interpreted in its accurate cultural, linguistic and historical context. The Truth: We want people to understand who they really are in light of the message of Grace and the accurate retelling of the scriptures, often used to 'bash' people, and to know that everyone is offered grace and the gift of life no matter who they are.

North Asheville Sweet Peas
Being new to the area I have decided to start this group in hopes of creating a "close-knit" circle of friends for both myself and my kids. I had a wonderful playgroup back home and I know as a SAHM that support is truly invaluable! If you are a stay-at-home or work-at-home mom in the Asheville or North Asheville areas looking for the chance to get out with your kids, socialize and build some new friendships I'd love for you to join this group! We will plan play dates and MNO's (for our own sanity!) and have a great time together! I'm hoping to keep this group small and "close-knit" so that everyone gets the chance to really connect and feel welcome. And we all have enough drama dealing with our toddlers on a daily basis so this group is to be as laid back as possible!:) Please only apply if you are serious about being an active member, staying involved and building some true friendships!

Weekly Watercolor Coop
The best part of my routine, for several years, in the two places I lived most recently, was a large weekly watercolor group at an affordable price, not linked to academic schedules or tuition. I am volunteering to teach until there are other experienced watercolorists and teachers in the group who can also take a turn occasionally. All levels are welcome. The cost will be an affordable annual membership and an even more affordable weekly fee, for the weeks you come. It is a non-profit, community group where all monies will go to pay for the space and furniture needed. We will also, hopefully, have the opportunity to exhibit as well, within the gallery and also in public places, as we can arrange it. Come paint. Come have fun. Come learn from everyone else in the room.

Life After Religion - Regaining The Real You
No matter whether you believe in a higher power or the higher power is you, everyone must be a Free Thinker in order to live life to the fullest. Often we spend so much time planning for the future, getting caught up in " catching a limousine to heaven" or " riding the Greyhound to hell" that we miss out on the most beautiful and most profound thing in our lives, OURSELVES . We must matter most to ourselves. DO: Q:You want to think for yourself Q:You want to take control of your past to live in the present Q:You believe there is more to this life but have been deceived, abused or robbed of the innocence and joy found in the Spiritual Side of you Q:You want today to be the most important day THEN: A:Learn to be a FREE THINKER A:Learn to live for the moment and enjoy life A:Regain you innocence, speak to your spirit, learn to stop those who want control over it A:You are not alone It is not believing where you go or do not go after your dead that makes your life the best it can be, your life is made the best when it is lived each and every day for the the beauty it contains. Even on your worst day there is beauty waiting to unfold. THAT BEAUTY IS YOU. Life After Religion is a place where you take back the real you. Life After Religion operates in a group setting where everyone can have a voice, share experiences, gain insight, be recognized as individuals and loved for who you are. Join Life After Religion and live for today. Life After Religion is an Equal Opportunity Organization. Gender, Race, Sexual Orientation, Religious Affiliation, Non-Religious, Age, are all welcome.

I Ching Support Group
I decided to start this group in order to share my enthusiasm for the I Ching and Taoism as tools to facilitate personal development and creativity. My name is Patrick Frank and I am the organizer of this group. I live in Arden, not far from Asheville. I am a poet-essayist-songwriter and advocate for the poor with a teaching-counseling background who has been strongly influenced by Eastern, Native American and Celtic philosophy. I am married and we have three adult kids between us as well as four grand kids. I have been working with the I Ching for more than 30 years. I do not regard it as fortune telling, but rather as a guide to Taoist philosophy. This is conceived as a peer group with no leader, per se. We all have strengths to draw on. This is in no way conceived as a professional counseling group, though I have a counseling background, and participation is free of charge. At this point we are meeting once weekly in a cafe setting in Asheville. I will inform you of the next time and place for the meeting. Thank you for signing up! FAWNS
FAWNS stands for Food Addictions Western North Carolina Support. After trying to find a non-theistic support group for women in Western North Carolina, and being unsuccessful in that search. I've decided to start one. Note: I can't stress enough that this group will not be looking to a higher power for support, but to each other and within ourselves. This will however be a very loving, understanding, mindful, and safe space to see ourselves in each other.
